ABOUT THE BOOK
This work in English rhyme, hopes to preserve the sense of the great classic. If this work can incite the reader to turn to the original it would have achieved its purpose.
Gita and Ramayana are perhaps the sum total of the fabrics of Hinduism (- a way of life; the religion generally followed is called `Sanatan Dharma'). Gita teaches us both metaphysics and practice of disciplined action. It proclaims that life is worth living, teaches how it should be lived and the path to self-realisation. It is the cream of the Upanishads, which themselves are the core of the Four Vedas.
Lord's teachings do not end with what He stated to Arjun. He resides in each one of us and so communicates to us through our conscience.

Chapter 1 - Arjun's Dilemma
Lamenting the Consequence of War
The scene is on the plains of Kuruksetra and with Arjun uncomfortable with the consequences of war. This chapter introduces the reasons behind the war, characters involved, warriors on both sides, Arjun’s dejection at having to fight against his own kith and kin and his fears of the sins that may be on him for doing so.

What rages at their field of duty,
At Kurukshetra - visualize clearly."

The Lalita Shahasranam, part of the Brahmanda Puranas, provides the reader a peep into the marvelous world through the prism of the ancient sages. It is composed by eight vaag devis (vaag devathas) upon the command of Lalitha. These vaag devis are Vasini, Kameshwari, Aruna, Vimala, Jayinee, Modhinee, Sarveshwari, Koulini. The sahasranama says that “One can worship Lalitha only if she wishes us to do so”.
This sahasranama is a sacred text for worship of the Divine Mother Lalita, and is used in the worship of Durga, Parvati, Kaali, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Bhagavathi, etc. It is the embodiment of Para Shakti or the ultimate female power, representing the Panchabhuta: fire, air, water, space and earth.
